Public sector lender, Punjab National Bank has come up with a special credit card scheme for the visually impaired.

As per a circular generated on May 31, the bank has specifically instructed all its branches pan India to accept application forms filed by blind people who have a bank account for more than six months and have a satisfactory track record.

It is also specified that the visually impaired individuals who are in the age group of 18 to 65 years with minimum qualification of matriculation and possess screen reader enabled mobile phones would be eligible for obtaining a credit card.

A written undertaking is demanded from the customer stating that he would make judicious and legal use of the card.

“Credit cards have become an important aspect of the way we transact today,” said Akhilesh, a visually impaired person working for a famous BPO company in Bangalore. He added that, “The move by PNB to issue credit cards especially for persons with vision impairment is a nice thing indeed. Hopefully this would extend to other services they provide for able-bodied customers.”
