Banks have been given the legal permission to close the account of a customer if he fails to provide PAN card related details of customer. The permission has been granted by Delhi’s top consumer court.

The court recently refused to attend to the complaint filed by a customer against HDFC Bank for closing his account for want of PAN card details. Speaking on the issue Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission’s President B.A. Zaidi said: “The HDFC bank cannot be faulted for its attitude in closing the account in the circumstances.”

The complaint was filed by Ramesh Chand who alleged having suffered losses due to closure of his account without his consent.

He had approached the court of law seeking ways to reopen his account.

The court rejected the complaint.
