Private sector lender, Axis Bank has signed an agreement with two third party service providers in what is referred to as the largest ATM outsourcing deal. The bank plans to increase the number of ATMs in its kitty to more than 9000 in the upcoming 18 months.
The contracts have been signed with Prizm Payment Services and AGS Infotech. The companies would be responsible for setting up and managing 5000 ATMs on a purely variable model, a person knowing the ongoings of the deal said.
As on March 31, 2010 the ATM count of Axis Bank has been 4,293. As per the contract, Prizm will set up 3,500 ATMs while AGS Infotech will set up 1,500 ATMs.
There will not be any capital expenditure on the part of the bank owing to the outsourced nature of the deal. The bank would have responsbility only to the extent of cash settlement and would pay the service providers fees on a per transaction basis.
The fee amount has been decided to be Rs 13-15 for every cash withdrawal and Rs.

Fake notes are increasing in number in whole of the country. Fake notes amounting to crores of rupees have been seized by law enforcement agencies in Kolkata in the past few years. Many fraudsters have also been nabbed in this regard.
According to records from police authorities, fake notes worth more than Rs. 100 crores are still in circulation in Kolkata and its neighboring areas.
Police has recently seized fake notes worth Rs. 1.8 crore.
Forty four people have been arrested in this regard. It is suspected that ISI personnel in Pakistan are the main operatives of this racket.
Fake notes put the beholder for a financial loss. The general public thus has to be on constant vigil. If a person receives fake notes, he should immediately deposit it at the nearest bank or police station. If a fake note comes out of the ATM, it should be immediately reported to the nearest bank branch giving all details of the transaction.

The number of credit card holders has shown a decline as per reports generated in March. The number has dipped below the 20 million mark and now stands at 18.3 million.
The report confirming this decline has been released by the Reserve Bank of India. The last fiscal saw a massive chunk of 6.04 million cards walking out of circulation. This figure is exclusive of the nearly 3.61 million credit cards that were cancelled in 2008-09.
The economic slowdown had brought tremendous affect on unsecured portfolios like credit cards and personal loans. The largest credit card lender of the country, ICICI Bank diminished its credit card base from 8 million to 5 million as of now. The bank also stopped giving life time credit cards.
However, banks like HDFC still bring out 70-80,000 cards every month.

Jet Airways has declared a tie up with SBI Card wherein customers would now be able to book airline tickets through their portal using the card option.
SBI Card comes as a joint venture by State Bank of India, the country’s largest lender and GE Capital.
As per the offer, SBI credit card holders would be able to select an option which would enable them to convert their ticket purchases done through the company’s portal into a 0% EMI having a tenor of 6 months.
According to Jet Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Sudheer Raghavan, this tie up comes as yet another addition in the travel category of cards which facilitates economical and cost effective air travel for families.
“This scheme will help a family to undertake visits to tourist spots and encourage domestic tourism,” Raghavan said.
“We are delighted to partner with Jet Airways and offer SBI Cardholders an affordable travel option.

If you move abroad even temporarily, British Embassies around the world say you should register your presence overseas with them. The argument being, if there is an emergency wherever you are, they can contact you and potentially help you.
